Rolling Programme
This fund operates on a rolling basis with periodic opening and closing dates.
Who can apply
Registered charities that run facilities that are open to all members of the community can be considered for grants to fully fund capital projects up to £20,000. The projects should make a tangible, long term difference to the community.
Charities should own the property where the project is being delivered, or have a long-term lease with a minimum of 3 years remaining
Examples of charities that could benefit are: community centres; village halls; school PTAs; scouts huts; hospices; community gardens; warm hubs etc.
Restrictions
Does the Foundation support CICs or organisations with exempt charitable status?
No. We only support charities that are registered with the Charity Commission (England and Wales) and the OSCR (Scotland).
Eligible Expenditure
Our Connecting Communities grants offer up to £20,000 to charities who provide placed-based services to our entire community or specific groups.
Funding is available to support capital projects that:
Breathe new life into local spaces: Upgrade and revitalise buildings and outdoor areas.
Bring people together: Reduce social isolation and foster a strong sense of belonging.
Secure the future: Ensure vital local services remain open and accessible for generations to come.
Projects should have a lasting impact such as:
Renovations: Fixing a leaking roof, accessible toilets, installing a new kitchen
Construction: A shed for a community allotment
Fixed Equipment: Installing boilers, security systems, stairlifts, or sensory room equipment
Outdoor Spaces: Landscaping a community garden, paving a wheelchair-accessible path, or installing playground equipment
How to apply
There is no fixed deadline to apply for a Connecting Communities grant, we process applications monthly. You can expect a decision within 8 weeks, with successful applications being paid 4 weeks after award.
Applications are shortlisted, before our Trustees consider which applications to fund.
Criteria Evaluation:
Alignment: Does the intended impact deliver on the purpose?
Need: Is there a clear explanation that the project is needed?
Legacy: Will this project provide a lasting, resilient legacy for the community or service users into the future?
Value for Money: Is the project realistic, fully costed, and ready to be delivered as a standalone capital spend?
Where applications meet our criteria, they are more likely to succeed where:
They support a more deprived community
They are delivered in community closer to a Morrisons store
They benefit a larger number people
The project has a lasting legacy
They're from a charity with a smaller annual income
