Applications for Seedlings of Change grants are now open!
Do children in your community have ideas for improving their local environment?
Seedlings of Change is a new child-led climate and nature innovation programme from Save the Children Cymru and Admiral Group, supporting children affected by poverty to design and lead solutions to the environmental challenges that matter most to them.
We're looking to fund three organisations working in communities in Wales, each receiving a £60,000 grant for an 18 month-2-year funded programme. We’re looking for organisations that are committed to meaningful child participation and community-led change.
Projects could focus on:
Biodiversity and wildlife conservation.
Community growing and food sustainability.
Improving local green spaces.
Reducing waste and increasing recycling.
Nature-based wellbeing initiatives.
Climate resilience and adaptation.
Environmental awareness and education.
Community-led environmental improvements.
Who can apply
We are looking for projects focused on one defined community. You can tell us how you define that community — for example, it may be a small area, village or town. We welcome applications from small organisations, as well as larger organisations that want to test an approach in a clearly defined local area.
National, regional and local organisations that work with children, families and communities.
This includes charities, community organisations, local authorities, social enterprises and environmental organisations.
We are not encouraging individual schools to apply to this project. Community organisations who are working with schools can apply.
What Do We Mean by Child-Led?
Adults play an important role in creating safe, supportive and inclusive environments where children can participate confidently and meaningfully. Child-led does not mean that children are expected to run projects on their own. We are looking to work with organisations who are willing to move to sharing power with children. We recognise that meaningful participation can happen in different ways. Our ambition is to support projects to move beyond simply asking children for their views and towards creating opportunities for children to influence solutions and shape decisions.
You don't need to be an environmental organisation. We're looking for groups that can support children to explore ideas, influence decisions and lead action in their communities. We are particularly keen to hear from organisations working in North and South West Wales. Successful organisations will receive funding, grant development support and opportunities to learn alongside other partners across Wales.
