Perthyn Grant for Communities

What is the Perthyn grant scheme?

Perthyn grant scheme is open to applications from community groups across Wales that want to create and/or build community capacity and accelerate ideas that will lead to the creation of social enterprises or community-led housing projects where the Welsh language is central to the aims and objectives of the project. The grant is focused on revenue costs. Applications may be entirely revenue-based or include a mix of revenue and capital costs, provided that capital costs do not exceed 50% of the total grant requested. The combined revenue and capital request must not exceed £10,000.

Who can apply

  • Welsh-language, community-led groups from across Wales.

  • Newly formed groups or groups established within the last 12 months by the application submission date. Priority will be given to groups formed within the last 12 months to help turn ideas into viable projects.

  • Groups that have not previously received Perthyn grant funding.

  • Groups without a bank account can apply.

  • Funding must support the development of community-led Welsh-language enterprise or housing activity.

Restrictions

  • Funding must be spent within the agreed grant period, by 31/03/2027.

  • Groups that have previously received Perthyn grant funding are not eligible to apply.

  • Revenue funding is prioritised.

  • Capital-only applications are not eligible.

  • Applications can request 100% revenue funding or a maximum 50:50 split between revenue and capital costs.

  • Well-established groups that have been registered for more than 12 months are not eligible to apply.

Eligible Expenditure

  • Capacity building (project management/co-ordination)

  • Facilitating community engagement (e.g., consultation events, housing needs assessment surveys)

  • Land searches

  • Property and land surveys

  • Architecture costs

  • Pre-purchase costs (e.g., pre-planning costs, land surveys)

  • Early-stage fees (financial advice, feasibility studies)

  • Incorporation

  • Specialist consultancy (not available under existing programmes i.e., SBW, Communities Creating Homes)

  • Legal advice

  • Essential emergency repairs and urgent works
