GVS Launches FoodShare Pantry St Athan

Glamorgan Voluntary Services (GVS) is delighted to have launched an expansion of its existing FoodShare project in St Athan.  The project, which already runs at the CF61 centre in Llantwit Major every Thursday, will now be running fortnightly at The Gathering Place in St Athan on Wednesdays.

The pantry, which is part of the Food Vale Partnership’s wider Llantwit Food Project, with partners Cardiff and Vale University Health Board and the Vale of Glamorgan Council, has received funding from the National Lottery Community Fund.  It aims to reduce food waste while improving access to affordable, good food in the community and will largely be stocked with surplus food procured through FareShare Cymru and local supermarkets, as well as fresh produce from local growers.  Customers will be able to shop for a range of goods, including fruit and vegetables, bakery goods, refrigerated and frozen products, for £5.

Paul Warren, Operational Manager at GVS, said:

“GVS is thrilled to be able to extend the existing FoodShare model to St Athan as it has proven to be very successful in Llantwit Major.  The service is extremely valued by the local community and contributes to the achievements of the wider Food Project partnership.”

GVS is recruiting volunteers to support the project. Enquiries about volunteering opportunities can be submitted by emailing: volunteering@gvs.wales

The next pantry will take place on Wednesday 24 January 2024 and is open to all Vale of Glamorgan residents.
