Former GVS CEO Rachel Connor receives Royal Invitation to Buckingham Palace

Glamorgan Voluntary Services (GVS) is delighted to share that Rachel Connor, our long‑standing former CEO who dedicated over 30 years to the Voluntary Sector, received a prestigious invitation to attend the Royal Garden Party at Buckingham Palace on 8 May 2026.

Rachel was nominated by Jane Hutt MS in recognition of her outstanding services to the Voluntary Sector - a testament to her decades of leadership, compassion and commitment to communities across the Vale of Glamorgan.

Joined by her son James, who proved to be a wonderful escort, Rachel enjoyed a memorable day in the Palace gardens. Although it was difficult to get close to the Royal Family due to the large crowds, she was thrilled to capture photos of The Prince and Princess of Wales from afar.

She described the event as “busy but beautifully organised”, praising the gardens, the atmosphere and, of course, the excellent tea. In a touching personal detail, Rachel wore her late mother’s hat and jacket — “taking Mum with me to Buckingham Palace,” she said.

GVS is incredibly proud to see Rachel’s lifelong contribution recognised at such a special national occasion. Her legacy continues to shape and inspire our work today.
