Volunteer Poolside Assistant
About Barry Beavers:
Barry Beavers provides qualified instruction using the Halliwick Concept in teaching swimming therapy to disabled members, of all ages and disabilities.
Role summary:
The primary purpose of this role will be to support our safeguarding officers during pool sessions. The role is to supervise the poolside and changing areas during swimming. This role does not require lifeguarding skills or first aid training.
Swimming sessions are run by Halliwick instructors, who teach in the pool. Additional eyes on poolside ensure that members are safe at all times. This opportunity takes place at Barry Leisure Centre.
Tasks will include:
Supervising changing areas
Maintain a vigilant watch over swimmers, to ensure all members are happy &safe in the water
Assist with equipment, helping instructors with toys and floats for the lessons
Essential skills:
Fit and healthy, as you will be standing on poolside for 1.5 hours
Compassionate and dependable
Ability to maintain confidentiality
Good communicator with patience to offer encouragement to swimmers with varying needs
Time commitment: Time specific to a Saturday. The Club meets at 3 pm on a Saturday, with swimmers in the water from 3:30 pm to 5:00 pm.
Expenses reimbursed: Unfortunately, travel expenses are not reimbursed.
Training provided: Full induction and training, also access to other training as needs are identified.
Selection procedure: An informal chat, application form completion, 2 references and a disclosure and barring check (cost met by organisation).
