Volunteer Cook

This organisation is looking for volunteers aged 18+ to cook weekly meals in the centre for our women to access healthy and nutritious meals.   This opportunity is available to females only.

Background:  Safer Wales Volunteering Service supports Safer Wales projects in helping victims of domestic abuse, sexual violence, and sexual exploitation. For the last 20 years we have been working with victims of domestic violence, rape, sexual abuse, exploitation and hate crime. Following the change that lasts model, Safer Wales Centre is working to help support vulnerable women to access to facilities, activities, and other essential items.

Volunteers will work alongside centre staff and with the help of volunteer Centre Assistants, the volunteer cook will produce hot, healthy, and nutritious meals on a Tuesday for our women to enjoy.

 Main duties involve:

  • Planning and preparing meals for the women to consume

  • To follow appropriate Food Health and Safety hygiene regulations (training will be provided)

  • To report any safeguarding concerns to the Activities Centre Coordinator and support staff and follow all health and safety

  • To liaise with the Activities Centre Coordinator on an appropriate risk assessment for the cooking

  • To work alongside women who wish to partake in the cooking

  • Maintain a positive and inclusive atmosphere

  • Volunteers will be required to appropriately update any feedback forms, and monitoring forms and to maintain a register of attendance for the sessions

  • Capacity to collaborate successfully with a diverse set of people

  • Maintain confidentiality in accordance with Safer Wales Ltd confidentiality policy

  • Provide support, guidance, and encouragement to clients

  • Excellent Communication & Listening Skills

  • Problem-solving skills

  • Empathy and patience

  • Basic IT Skills

  • Able to work as part of a team

Time commitment: This opportunity takes place on a Tuesday.  Other days may be available.  Negotiable with the organisation.
Expenses reimbursed: 
Travel expenses are reimbursed.
Training
: Volunteers will receive a two-part blended induction and will receive updates on volunteering opportunities. Volunteers will receive all necessary support and information through email, telephone calls and online meetings.
