The Volunteering Wales Grant Scheme

The second round of the Volunteering Wales Main Grant scheme is now open to applications using WCVA’s Multipurpose Application Portal (MAP).

The scheme will focus on projects that tackle barriers to volunteering, give a positive experience for the volunteer and have a long-lasting impact on the community.

Funding of up to £30,000 a year will be available, with projects taking place over a maximum of two years. The closing date for applications is 24 October 2025 at 11.59 pm.

ABOUT VOLUNTEERING WALES GRANTS

Volunteering is one of the national wellbeing indicators tracking Wales’ progress against the Well-being of Future Generations (Wales) Act goals.

The Well-being of Future Generations Act (2015) aims to improve the way that Wales achieves economic, social, environmental and cultural well-being.

Volunteers play a vital role in helping voluntary organisations achieve their missions and values. Through funding organisations to support and train individuals in high-quality volunteering opportunities, the Volunteering Wales Main Grant contributes to stronger communities and lasting positive change.

Projects funded through the scheme have already made a meaningful impact across Wales, benefiting volunteers and the communities they serve.

STRENGTHENING COMMUNITIES THROUGH VOLUNTEERING

Advocacy Support Cymru’s Gyda’n Gilydd project has empowered people with lived experience of mental health issues to support others and help shape advocacy services. Volunteers gained skills, built friendships, and made meaningful contributions.

The Police Volunteering Project from Skills & Volunteering Cymru enabled volunteers to support crime prevention initiatives alongside South Wales Police. A volunteer involved in the Safety Bus Scheme, helping vulnerable people get to safety during nights out in Cardiff, said the experience hasn’t just been a volunteer opportunity. ‘It’s been a chance to make a meaningful impact, on the journey towards a safer, more compassionate community.’

Home-Start Flintshire used their grant to recruit a Volunteer Coordinator, who introduced greater support and flexibility for the volunteers, improving their wellbeing. She also oversaw the Investing in Volunteers Award renewal, leading to noticeable improvements in how volunteering was managed. A trustee said, ‘she has brought in so many new ideas, we are a much better organisation for having her in post.’
