The MACC Hub Flexible Fund

The MACC Hub Flexible Fund supports place-based, transformational climate adaptation projects across the UK. With up to £55,000 per project (total fund: £550,000), it aims to enable practical actions that address local climate vulnerabilities, promote equity and justice, and foster collaboration between academic and non-academic partners. Projects must be community-engaged, demonstrate measurable outcomes, and align with adaptation policy needs.

Who can apply

Lead applicants must be from a UK institution eligible for UKRI funding, such as:

  • Higher Education Institutions (HEIs)

  • Research institutes

  • NHS bodies

  • Public sector research establishments

Co-leads and partners can include:

    • Community groups

    • Local authorities

    • NGOs and third-sector organisations

    • Health and care organisations

    • Businesses and public bodies


All applications must demonstrate equitable collaboration, with non-academic partners actively involved in both development and delivery.

Restrictions

MACC Hub collaborators, Advisory Group members, or affiliated research projects cannot apply.

Eligible Expenditure

The fund covers a broad range of costs essential to project delivery, including:

  • Staff time (both academic and non-academic)

  • Travel and subsistence

  • Project delivery costs (e.g. materials, venue hire, community engagement)

  • Small equipment and consumables, where directly relevant to project delivery

  • HEIs: 80% Full Economic Cost (FEC)

  • Non-HEIs: 100% FEC

  • Third-sector organisations may include overheads (20% of direct staff costs)

Non-HEI partners must account for at least 30% of the total cost (including VAT).

Note: Large capital equipment purchases are not expected or prioritised — equipment must be reasonable, project-specific, and clearly justified.

How to apply

The application process has two stages:

1. Expression of Intent (EOI)due by 8 August 2025, 5:00pm BST

Mandatory: applicants who do not submit an EOI will be automatically excluded

Submitted via the online form linked on the MACC Hub website

2. Full Application due by 30 September 2025, 5:00pm BST

Can be in written, video, or audio format

Video/audio must be clear, structured, and within 3–5 minutes per section
