Fund for Wales

The Fund for Wales is a national community endowment fund, managed and promoted by Community Foundation Wales

It is a philanthropy promotion and grant-making programme which raises money from people and organisations across Wales, the UK, and overseas who want to ‘give back’ to support and strengthen local communities: the Fund for Wales connects people who care with causes that matter.

The fund is currently supported through partnership with the Postcode Lottery, alongside a contribution from Tiny Rebel and Goodwash.

Fund for Wales is open to small, local, community led constituted charities and voluntary organisations (e.g. associations, social enterprises, Community Interest Companies and clubs), with an annual income of less than £100,000.

Fund outcomes:

  • Improving people’s chances in life,

  • Building stronger communities,

  • Improving rural and urban environments,

  • Encouraging healthier and more active people and communities,

  • Preserving heritage and culture.

Fund for Wales panel meetings will be held towards the end of each month to review applications and distribute funding on a rolling basis (subject to change). Applicants will be notified of the outcome within two months of submission.

Grants Available

Grants of between £500 – £2,500 per annum for up to 3 years, are available to organisations whose applications best deliver against the outcomes above.

We hope to award at least six multiyear grants; if you apply for multiyear funding and are unsuccessful, there is still a possibility of receiving one year of funding.

Who can apply?

Fund for Wales is open to small, local, community led constituted charities and voluntary organisations (e.g. associations, social enterprises, Community Interest Companies and clubs), with an annual income of less than £100,000 in the last financial year. We welcome applications from organisations that have never received funding from this Fund before.

You must be one of the following:

  • Constituted Groups

  • Registered Charities & Charitable Incorporated Organisations

  • Companies Limited by Guarantee

  • Community Interest Companies

  • Social Enterprises

Please note: If you are a Community Interest Company (CIC) registered in the last 18 months, you are not eligible to apply for this funding. If you do apply within your first 18 months of trading your application will be rejected.

You are not eligible to reapply for this funding if you have been rejected in the last 6 months (from the date of the rejection).

How to apply?

Applicants must complete an online application form via our Grants Hub.

Please do not apply if your income is over £100,000. Approximately 20% of applications we have received are not eligible due to income level. If your income is over £100,000, your application will be rejected.

Please note:

  • Grants are not paid retrospectively, i.e., for costs incurred before receiving our grant offer letter, and the signed terms and conditions must be returned.

  • Grants are not available to support fundraising for other groups or charities.

  • If a multi-year grant is awarded, the first year of the grant must be spent within a year of receiving our offer letter.

  • Beneficiary groups need to be based in Wales.

  • The application must demonstrate a clear need for financial assistance, financial hardship, or additional support needs.
