Developing Post 19 Provision for Young Adults with PMLD

Two Rhythms are an accessible arts charity providing educational and therapeutic programmes for the benefit of people with profound physical and learning disabilities. We do this through the mediums of dance and movement, music and relaxation techniques. Currently we are exploring a specialist Post-19 Learning, Communication and Participation Programme for young adults with profound and multiple learning disabilities. At Two Rhythms, we believe reaching adulthood should not mean reaching the end of meaningful learning.
We are therefore exploring a new Post-19 Learning, Communication and Participation Programme for young adults with profound and multiple learning disabilities. The programme could combine sensory learning, creative activity, communication, assistive technology, social connection and individual progression, delivered in small groups by people who understand profound disability.

The purpose of this programme would be to help provide continued opportunities for these individuals to continue in developing their learning and communication, creative expression, social connection and community participation post school/college.
We are consulting organisations and professionals, as well as carers and guardians to understand local need, identify gaps, shape the delivery model and establish potential referral and partnership arrangements.
If you are a parent, guardian or carer, we want to know what matters most to the person you support. What opportunities currently exist? What is missing? What would meaningful progression look like for them? What would make it easier, or harder, to take part?
If you work in education, health, social care or the voluntary sector, we want to understand the gaps you see, the likely demand for specialist Post-19 provision and what would make a service useful, safe and sustainable.
There are two questionaires. One for Carers/Guardians, the other for other professionals and organisations within the third sector. Responses will be used to help design the programme and support future funding applications. Individual responses will remain confidential and individuals will not be identified without separate permission.
