The Vale is experiencing the following threats:
• Coast and countryside - coastal erosion and threat to habitats.
• Rising temperatures - impact on older people - ageing population in Vale?
• Flooding and extreme weather
• Fuel poverty, air quality
• Climate stress on agriculture
• Infrastructure vulnerability
A few facts:
• Council declared a climate emergency in 2019 and nature emergency in 2021.
• The Vale has 60km of coastal path, countryside landscapes, and major agricultural zones — all increasingly under pressure from climate change.
• The Vale’s warming stripes (1884–2023) show a clear trend toward hotter years, mirroring global climate warming.
• 85% of neighbourhods in the Vale have particulate matter (PM2.5) levels above WHO’s recommendation
