"Bring Me Sunshine" Concert Raises £700 for Dinas Powys Voluntary Concern
On 4th April 2025 Barry Ladies Choir joined forces with Vale Associated Training Brass Band to raise £700 for Dinas Powys Voluntary Concern in a spring concert for a capacity crowd at St Peters Church in Dinas Powys. The event, aptly named ‘Bring me Sunshine’, was an uplifting evening for both audience and performers. A big thank you to the musical teams of Emily Gait-Scaglioni & Christopher Fossey from Barry Ladies Choir and Dan Dennis from VAT Brass Band. Many thanks also to John Fanshaw and Judith Anderson from DPVC for helping organise the evening.
VAT Brass band, the future of brass banding in the Vale, thrilled the audience with classics of Batman, Bob the Builder, Rocky, Postman Pat, Wallace & Gromit as well as music by The Rolling Stones, Madness and Abba!
In the second half Barry Ladies Choir entertained us with ‘Blue Moon’ and ‘Panis Angelicus’ as well as music from Mary Poppins and Les Miserables, before finishing with the cheerful ‘Bring Me Sunshine’ by Morecambe & Wise. A rousing joint item of the Welsh National Anthem brought the evening to a jubilant end.
Barry Ladies Choir performed again the following week at the DPVC Dementia Friendly Coffee morning. A beautiful morning of music which created smiles all round when everyone joined in with ‘Bring Me Sunshine’! Delicious refreshments were also enjoyed by all. DPVC provides support and friendship to those who feel isolated and lonely. Please see dpvc.org.uk for more information on all their activities.
Both musical groups rehearse on Tuesdays in Barry and are actively recruiting for new members so please see Barryladieschoir.com, facebook.com/BarryLadiesChoirOfficial or facebook.com/VATBrassBand for more details. If you would like either musical group to perform for your event please get in touch as soon as possible.
