A number of small grants are available for either community organisations or local businesses to apply to.
Financial Assistance Grants 2026/27
Barry Town Council’s grants programme opens on 1st November 2026.
Every year, Barry Town Council supports local organisations and businesses through a range of grant programmes. Over the last ten years, the Council has awarded more than £500,000 to the community.
Why we can offer grants
Under Section 24 of the Local Government and Elections (Wales) Act 2021, “qualifying local authorities” (principal councils and eligible community councils) have a general power of competence. This lets them do anything an individual can do, as long as they act rationally and within the law. The aim is more effective, capable and innovative local government, allowing councils to act in their communities’ best interests, generate efficiencies and secure value for money.
How the grants work
Grants are open to community organisations and local businesses, subject to meeting the Terms and Conditions. They help the Council deliver its 7 Wellbeing Goals for Barry and improve our town and community. Please note that all grants are available for Barry only.
The grants budget is set each April for the financial year. Applications are considered at the next meeting of the Finance, Policy and General Purposes Committee, or at a meeting set by the Council, once the current round has closed. Some programmes may also be considered on a rolling basis. We will announce on our website and social media when each programme opens.
How to apply
We use one universal application form for all programmes. Applicants must state which funding stream they are applying under so their application can be assessed properly.
