Barry Ladies Choir Summer Concert Success

It was a packed hall on 1st July to see Barry Ladies Choir & local soloists!

Holding out for a hero’ by Bonnie Tyler was a fantastic way to open the concert with a bang! Then choir favourite ‘Feed the birds’ pulled on the audience’s heartstrings. Talented young pianists Thomas and Emily, played music by Haydn and Lewis Capaldi and then Amelia returned to sing for us for the second time with ‘Calon Lan’ to the tune of ‘The Rose’. To end the first half the choir performed for the first time the beautiful ‘Lullabye’ by Billy Joel in gorgeous 3 part harmony.
The choir started the second half with the classic ‘Panis Angelicus’ followed by a dramatic medley from ‘Les Miserables’. We were then treated to performances from the talented Anijah and Joe singing songs from Chicago, Chess, Thoroughly modern Millie and Ghost. Finally, a moment of reflection with a reading of the poem ‘Love Came First’ by Donna Ashworth followed by a beautiful song of friendship from the choir with ‘All the way home’ by Sarah Quartel.

Choir chair Julie Green gave thanks to everyone who made the evening possible, especially the talents of our accompanist Christopher Fossey, then to finish the choir led the audience in a very jolly ‘Bring me Sunshine’. What a great night!

Musical Director Emily Gait-Scaglioni said:
“I am immensely proud of every member of the choir, performing with such joy, conviction and commitment in every song. Their hardwork has really paid off and their trust in me to sing new music and willingness to try new exercises and ideas has been inspiring in our first year together!

Singing in a group is a beautiful way to feel connected with your community. Not just with your fellow performers but the community who come to hear you sing - we had babies, children and adults of all ages enjoying the music and I was proud that we could provide an inclusive environment for people to feel welcome.

It was great to be able to provide solo performance opportunities again to young musicians and it was inspiring to see support for music from their families and friends. Thank you also to their wonderful teachers Carmen Brookes, Edmund Hartzell and Naomi Excell.”

The choir starts back on 2nd September Tuesdays 7-8.45pm in Barry, all are welcome to join. Your first 4 weeks are free then £40/term.
