The GVS Big Volunteering Fayre, held on Wednesday 28th January at the Memo Arts Centre in Barry, was a resounding success, attracting a total of 250 attendees, with over 180 members of the public actively seeking volunteering opportunities.
More than 40 voluntary and community organisations took part in the Fayre, promoting a wide range of volunteering roles and engaging directly with potential volunteers. The venue was buzzing with conversation as attendees engaged enthusiastically with the abundance of volunteering opportunities on offer.
Volunteer providers reported being extremely pleased with the level and quality of enquiries received, making the event a very successful opportunity for recruitment and networking.
The Fayre highlighted the many benefits of volunteering, including building confidence, improving health and wellbeing, enhancing CVs, meeting new people and adding structure to daily life. Attendees were able to speak first-hand with volunteer co-ordinators, gaining valuable insight into how they could get involved within their local community.
GVS would like to thank everyone who attended and contributed, to making the Big Volunteering Fayre such a positive and impactful event. The support from Memo Arts Centre staff helped ensure the event ran smoothly. GVS would like to thank Charlene Duddridge, Asda Community Champion, for kindly donating a fresh fruit selection, and Pam Bowen, Morrisons Community Champion, for generously providing a voucher for refreshments.
