Volunteer presenters aged 16+ are provided the training to research, develop and record locally relevant news items to be broadcast on air at the station.

News is a vital part of Bro Radio’s output, with the station being the number one source for local news within the Vale of Glamorgan. News reporters will be expected to source reliable news stories without help, although all previous training will be provided.

Key tasks and responsibilities:

  • To source and develop locally relevant news articles both in text and audio form

  • To attend events within the local area and source interviews for news stories

  • To attend training sessions to develop individuals and overall station ability

No formal qualifications required, however basic IT use would be ideal. Confidence to meet, speak and communicate items to local people is desired. Good English and lots of enthusiasm.

Bro Radio has two studio facilities in the Vale of Glamorgan: Barry YMCA has a large onsite carpark, and is also accessible by train (5 - 10 minute walk) and bus routes dropping off near by. CF61 in Llantwit Major has a large onsite carpark, with a train station located just across the road and bus routes dropping off nearby.

Time commitment: A suggested time commitment of 3 - 6 hours per week, negotiable with the organisation.
Training provided: Full training is provided as well as induction.
Expenses reimbursed: Travel and food expenses are reimbursed.
Selection procedure: Informal discussion, application form completion and 2 references.
