GVS’ Supported Volunteering creates opportunity for skilled Midwife
As part of the Supported Volunteering work undertaken by Glamorgan Voluntary Services (GVS), we recently received a referral from the Vale of Glamorgan for a woman keen to begin volunteering.
Her aim was to build confidence, with the longer-term goal of returning to paid employment.
Previously a qualified nurse and midwife in Afghanistan, GVS was able to successfully match her with The Birth Partner Project, an organisation that supports women from ethnic minority backgrounds throughout pregnancy and birth.
The Birth Partner Project is highly selective due to the demanding nature of the role and the extensive training involved. This makes the placement a particularly positive outcome. Not only does the volunteer gain a valuable opportunity to reconnect with her professional background and rebuild confidence, but the project also benefits from the unique clinical expertise and cultural understanding she brings to the role.
The Supported Volunteering Project offers tailored, one‑to‑one support for individuals who would like to volunteer but require additional assistance to access opportunities.
We are currently supporting people from ethnic minority communities, those who are neurodiverse, and individuals who may lack confidence, helping them to overcome barriers and realise their potential through volunteering.
Please contact GVS to find out more about the wide range of volunteering opportunities available throughout the Vale of Glamorgan.
