Catering and Hospitality Skills Academy - Barry

The next Catering and Hospitality Skills Academy will start on 15th January 2024 and will be delivered on a two and a half days per week basis. The two classroom-based days will be delivered on a Monday and Tuesday at our Barry Campus on Colcot Rd. The remaining half day will be delivered online/remotely, so learners will require a computer and Internet access at home. To help with transport, there will be a free shuttle bus available for learners to take you from City Centre Campus, Dumballs Rd, Cardiff, to Barry Campus (and back) on attendance days. Also, if you do not own a computer, a laptop will be provided for the duration of the course, after which it will need to be returned.

For all candidates wishing to enrol, we will be holding an informal interview day at One Canal Parade, Cardiff, CF10 5BF on Monday 11th December.

* Barrier Expenses:

  • Travel expenses will be paid to learners who plan to drive, travel by train or get a bus to Barry Campus from other areas.

  • Childcare costs (for a registered childcare agency) will be reimbursed retrospectively (in arears) to cover the cost of childcare during the 12-weeks of training. Invoices/receipts will be required.

  • Chefs whites uniform will be provided to all learners free of charge.

Please note: Before deciding whether you wish to enrol onto this Skills Academy, please be aware that this course (and the funding that underpins it) has been made available for individuals who have a real desire to find work in the catering and hospitality sector. At the end of the course, we will coordinate an informal 'speed interview' morning with Catering & Hospitality employers who will be open to offering job positions or further interviews to Academy graduates.

Important: Prior to enrolment, learners will be required to provide proof that they have UK right to work. If you do not have the UK right to work 'share code' unfortunately, you are not eligible to enrol. If you are invited to attend the interview day on Mon 11th December, please bring along this evidence with you along with your Passport and proof of address.

If you would like to attend the interview day, please email business@cavc.ac.uk to secure your place.
