Age Connects Cardiff and the Vale - Service Update for Referrers, Volunteers and Staff

Direct Access for CRTs and Vale Wellbeing Services

·        For CRTs and Vale Wellbeing staff – the Broker Service is commissioned to give you direct, fast-track access to additional support

·        A single point of contact that will pull together the right mix of third sector, private, and statutory services to meet individual needs and support independence

Help with Befriending and Shopping

·        Our befriending and shopping service’s supports people aged 65+ who are experiencing isolation. Please use the secure online referral forms where possible.  Cardiff Referral Form & Vale Referral Form

Help with Benefits

·        We can help people aged 60+ check they are getting all the benefits they are entitled to, support with applications, and offer face-to-face or telephone advice.

Barry Wellbeing Centre

·        38 Holton Road, Barry – open weekday mornings

·        A drop-in space for older people to stay active and meet others

·        Helps reduce isolation through social activities like Tai Chi, bingo, and knitting

·        Café with light refreshments

Memory and Wellbeing Café

·        Memory and Wellbeing Café and Occupational Therapy advice drop-ins, in partnership with CwmpasOT, every Wednesday at the Wellbeing Centre, 38 Holton Road, Barry.

·        10:30am–12pm: dementia-friendly activity 

·        12pm–3pm: Pop in sessions for OT advice

Help with Cutting Your Toenails

Our nail cutting service supports people who are unable to cut their toenails on their own. Open to all ages. Cost £24 for a clinic visit.

Small Grants

·        Up to £500 is available for essential items such as beds, fridges and mobility aids.  Applications must be made by a professional, not by the client

Volunteering

·        We are always looking for volunteers to support older people through our befriending and shopping service.

·        Please help by displaying our volunteer recruitment poster.

Help With Energy Bills

·        The LEAP service offers free, practical support to help people manage and reduce their energy costs.  Includes advice on saving energy, checking bills, and accessing grants or support schemes
