Hourglass Volunteer Opportunity: Support Safer Ageing in Vale of Glamorgan

Join Hourglass (Safer Ageing) to support older people facing abuse through our vital Helpline and frontline services.

Hourglass (Safer Ageing) is the only UK wide charity dedicated to ending the abuse, harm, neglect and exploitation of older people. Our 24/7 Helpline provides confidential advice, information and support to older people, families, professionals and concerned members of the public across all four nations.

We are currently recruiting Helpline, Administration and Data Support Volunteers in Glamorgan, to join our small, welcoming and friendly Frontline Services team. Volunteers play a crucial role in ensuring older people receive timely, empathetic and practical support when they need it most.

This remote role involves:

• Taking helpline enquiries and offering clear, non judgemental advice
• Explaining safeguarding options in ways callers can understand
• Making referrals to safeguarding teams and specialist services
• Basic information recording using our secure CRM system
• Supporting administrative tasks that keep our frontline operations running smoothly

Volunteers commit to a minimum of 3 hours per week, weekdays between 9am–5pm, and receive full training, including a 3.5 day virtual induction, ongoing 1:1 support, and access to learning, development and social events and opportunities.Although the role is home based, we particularly welcome volunteers in the Vale of Glamorgan who may also represent Hourglass at local events alongside staff and other locally based volunteers.

This is a meaningful opportunity to:

• Empower older people to live safer, abuse free lives
• Develop new skills in safeguarding, communication and frontline support
• Gain experience in a UK wide charity and update your CV
• Build confidence and connections within a supportive volunteer community

No previous safeguarding or domestic abuse experience is required — just empathy, reliability, good communication skills and a commitment to supporting older people. What do our volunteers say?: "I chose to volunteer at Hourglass for multiple reasons. One of the reasons is because it is closely linked with my degree, allowing me to use the skills I have learnt. Another reason is because of my prior awareness of the abuse older people experience, and wanting to help those people who need it." Lily, Helpline Volunteer.
