Volunteer Befrienders aged 16+ are required to spend time on a one to one basis with residents involving them with activities as and when required. This could mean:
- Playing cards
- Completing crosswords
- Collating memory albums
- Chatting together
- Taking residents into the garden and sitting with them
- Spending time with residents with crafts such as knitting and card making
- Could potentially assist with group activities e.g. bingo, scrabble, quizzes etc.
The volunteering work takes place in both Ty Gwyn (nursing home so residents are not so talkative) and also Morrell Court Home (residential so residents are a bit more talkative) Penarth.
Time commitment: A suggested weekly time commitment is 1 ½ - 2 hours. Days and hours are negotiable with the organisation.
Expenses reimbursed: Out of pocket expenses are reimbursed.
Training provided: Full training is provided.
Selection procedures: An informal discussion, application form completion, references and a disclosure and barring check will be required (cost met by organisation).
