Barclays donate 20 iPads to support wellbeing of NHS staff in Cardiff and the Vale of Glamorgan

Cardiff and Vale University Health Board has received a donation of 20 new iPads from Barclays to support the health and wellbeing of its staff. The health board’s Employee Health and Wellbeing Service will use the tablets to implement a range of activities to support its employees, such as assisting those engaged in counselling and occupational health consultations to access online support and resources, and enabling staff otherwise unable to get online to attend virtual wellbeing activities such as wellbeing Q&A sessions.

Carers Wales new on line sessions for unpaid Carers

These online sessions, funded by the Welsh Government, are a place where you can get involved in a range of activities that you may not be able to do normally and explore new opportunities. Cardiff and Vale UHB inputs into UK-wide study highlighting new symptoms in children with COVID-19

Cardiff and Vale University Health Board has contributed to a UK-wide study that has given new insight into common symptoms and prevalence of COVID-19 in children. The health board’s Children and Young Adult’s Research Unit (CYARU) has been implementing the Rapid-19 study, which aims to assess the number of children who have had COVID-19, the symptomatology of infection and whether those children have antibodies that may be able to fight off the infection.

PRESS RELEASE Wales’ biggest hospital launches “green zones” to increase access to urgent surgery

The launch of two green zones at University Hospital of Wales and University Hospital Llandough increases patient access to urgent surgery. Extensive work has been carried out at University Hospital of Wales (UHW) and University Hospital Llandough (UHL) to create dedicated green zones to enable more patients to undergo urgent surgery. The Protected Elective Surgery Unit at UHW and the Protected Surgical Unit at UHL have been established to minimise the risk of COVID-19 infection, increasing patients’ access to elective surgery.

PRESS RELEASE 19 August 2020 Service introduced in South Wales can reduce the risk of oesophageal cancer

People in Wales can be treated closer to home for treatment that can minimise the risk of oesophageal cancer, thanks to the introduction of the South Wales Barrett’s Radiofrequency Ablation (RFA) Service. The South Wales Barrett’s RFA service, which started in May 2020 and is housed within Cardiff and Vale University Health Board, has already seen 30 referrals to date; all of which have developed consequences of long term Barrett’s oesophagus.
