New Carers Gateway aims to transform support for unpaid carers

A new gateway service will act as the first point of contact for anyone with an unpaid caring responsibility in Cardiff and the Vale of Glamorgan. A carer is anyone who cares, unpaid, for a friend or family member who due to illness, disability, a mental health problem or an addiction cannot cope without their support.

GVS has produced guidance for new and emerging support groups working in the community. GVS has also produced a Directory of Third Sector Services for the Vale of Glamorgan COVID-19. This Directory provides information detailing third sector front line services, and helplines, which can support people during the Covid-19 crisis. Novel Coronavirus (COVID–19) temporarily pauses some of the screening programmes in Wales

Following the Welsh Government’s announcement of plans to suspend non-urgent outpatient appointments and non-urgent surgical admissions and procedures in order to redirect staff and resources to support the response to Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19), the Welsh Government have agreed the recommendations of Public Health Wales to temporarily pause some of the population based screening programmes.

£1m available to fund urgent small-charity coronavirus poverty relief

We face an unprecedented challenge to our health, economy, businesses, personal finance and way of life. And many of those who normally help society – our charities – are going to face similar pressures right now too. To try and help I'm going to release £1,000,000 from my personal charity fund to provide grants of £5,000 to £20,000 to small registered charities, or local arms of bigger charities, across the UK – to help with specific UK coronavirus-related poverty relief projects.

COVID 19 – Information

In the light of the spread of COVID 19 (Coronavirus) and the impact it may have on your services and volunteers, please do not hesitate to contact us if you need any information or guidance. If you are providing services in your area to help your community or vulnerable people during this difficult time and you want the service publicised, please let us know. In response to the developing COVID 19 (Coronavirus) situation, GVS has taken the difficult decision to suspend all face to face activities including meetings, networks, training and outreach activities from today, Monday 16 March. We will review the situation after Easter. In the meantime we will offer telephone and video alternatives where possible.
