Public Health Wales statement on Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak

Statement: Monday 19 October 2020 Dr Giri Shankar, Incident Director for the Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak response at Public Health Wales, said: “Public Health Wales supports the announcement by the Welsh Government today of a two-week national ‘fire-break’ to disrupt the transmission of Coronavirus in Wales. These new restrictions will come into effect at 6pm on Friday 23 October, and will last until the start of Monday 9 November.

National coronavirus firebreak to be introduced in Wales on Friday

A short, sharp “firebreak” will be introduced across Wales at the end of this week to help regain control of coronavirus, First Minister Mark Drakeford announced today. The fortnight-long action is needed to save lives and prevent the NHS from being overwhelmed. Speaking to the people of Wales, the First Minister said: This is the moment to come together; to play our part in a common endeavour to protect the NHS and save lives. This will not be easy, but we will do it together.

Many faith groups will have been having similar discussions at a local, regional or national level. The Forum aims to share this learning beyond individual denominations and faiths. Local Lockdown for Vale of Glamorgan

From Monday 28 September at 6.00pm the following additional restrictions will apply within the Vale of Glamorgan: People will not be able to leave or enter the county without a reasonable excuse. Extended households will be suspended. This will mean that meeting indoors in your home, café, bar or restaurant with anyone not in your immediate household will not be allowed . People must work from home wherever possible.

The Latest Public Health Wales statement on Novel Coronavirus

Updated Sunday 27th September 2020 Dr Giri Shankar, Incident Director for the Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak response at Public Health Wales, said: “Public Health Wales supports the announcement by the Welsh Government today of local restrictions in Neath Port Talbot, the Vale of Glamorgan and Torfaen. These arrangements are necessary in order to bring transmission of the virus under control in these areas.
