Cardiff and Vale UHB inputs into UK-wide study highlighting new symptoms in children with COVID-19

Cardiff and Vale University Health Board has contributed to a UK-wide study that has given new insight into common symptoms and prevalence of COVID-19 in children. The health board’s Children and Young Adult’s Research Unit (CYARU) has been implementing the Rapid-19 study, which aims to assess the number of children who have had COVID-19, the symptomatology of infection and whether those children have antibodies that may be able to fight off the infection.

NHS Dedicated Cancer Support Line

As part of the Health Board’s plan to ensure all patients can access essential services during the covid pandemic, we have launched a temporary dedicated Cancer Support Line. If you or a family member are living with cancer and you have questions or concerns, then call us on the support line – 02920 745655. The line is manned by our friendly and helpful advisors Monday – Friday, 9 – 12.30 and 1.30– 4pm.

GVS Gradual Re-Opening of Offices from 1st September 2020

During the COVID-19 crisis all GVS staff have been working remotely. We are now planning a gradual reopening of our offices in Barry from the 1st September 2020. We will not be able to accommodate “walk in” visitors. If you wish to speak or meet with a specific member of staff from 1st September, please telephone 01446 741706 or e-mail enquiries@gvs.wales in the first instance so that the necessary arrangements can be made.

Barry’s Age Connects Café to open

Age Connects Cardiff and Vale’s Senior Health Shop found at 38 Holton Road is pleased to announce that the Café and Information Centre will be opening on Monday 17th August. Our opening hours will be Monday to Thursday, 10am to 12 Midday.

Carers Wales The Me Time project

We’d like to tell you about our new suite of online sessions beginning next week. The Me Time project, funded by Welsh Government, will be run from August to March 2021 every week based around carer’s wellbeing and mental health support. Some of our opening sessions include mindfulness, story-telling, yoga and hints and tips for coming out of lockdown. We are being guided by carers to what type of sessions to put on and we will be evolve the program as we work alongside carers to give them the best possible experience.
