A Childline counsellor aged 16+ provides a service to children and young people who contact the helpline by telephone or the Childline website. As a trained volunteer, the Childline Counsellor is able to respond to children and young people in a variety of ways that meet their needs at the time they contact. This includes listening and speaking to children and young people on the telephone; via a live 1-2-1 online conversation, or via email. Childline supervisors always work alongside counselling volunteers giving support, advice and direction in working with sensitive issues such as bullying, sexual abuse, physical abuse, self-harm and family relationships.
The minimum weekly time commitment required is 4 hours, negotiable with the organisation.
