Buddy Volunteer Supporting Mental Health (Pave the Way Project)
The role of the Buddy aged 18+ is to:
- support those with lived experience of mental health problems to successfully volunteer in a range of identified volunteering opportunities
- develop a support plan with the volunteer
- provide face to face contact with the Volunteer to increase social interaction and confidence to volunteer
We welcome and encourage buddies from a wide range of backgrounds. The most important aspect of becoming a volunteer for the “Pave the Way” project is an overall interest in empowering people with lived experience of mental ill health. Volunteers should have empathy with the person and seek to fully understand their views, and what is important in their lives.
The level of buddy support required will be different with each volunteer. Hours are flexible in conjunction with volunteer and relevant Volunteering Officer.
Full training is provided and travel/food expenses are reimbursed.
An informal discussion, references and a disclosure and barring check will be required. Ref 113
