How to raise funds (for your charity) using Facebook

In this workshop you'll learn how to use Facebook's new tools that will help you raise funds for your charity. You'll be shown how to set up fundraising campaigns plus add the 'Donate' button to your Page, Posts and Videos. Donors will then be able to donate money directly to your charity via Facebook. You'll receive 100% of all donations as Facebook doesn't currently deduct any fees.

Barry to host important Charity Conference in November 2018

The theme of this year’s conference is “A Matter of Trust” and will focus on what charities and other Third Sector organisations need to do to help increase or rebuild the trust of the public in the light of recent events and increasing scrutiny. Representatives from the Charity Commission and Geldards LLP will be in attendance along with Cllr. Leighton Rowlands – Mayor of the Vale of Glamorgan.

Opening doors to low cost home ownership for first time buyers

With most first-time buyers needing approximately £30,000 for a house deposit, shared equity or low cost home ownership (LCHO) continues to be an affordable option as the first step on the property ladder. Newydd Housing Association, has seen over 20 low cost home ownership properties sold in the last three years, with these purchases being driven by 25 to 35 year olds.

Do you need desk space in the Vale of Glamorgan?

Glamorgan Voluntary Services (GVS) has desk space available (from 1st September 2018) at its offices in the Barry Community Enterprise Centre, Skomer Road, Barry CF62 9DA. One desk is priced at £35 per week or £1500 per year with a total of six desks available. Included in this price are heating and lighting, access to a kitchen area, use of filing cabinets and bookcases and car parking.

Staff changes at local charity, Y Bont

Local charity, Y Bont, has recruited a new CEO, Ann Sherwood. Ann has worked at a senior level for over 30 years helping small businesses and charities develop and grow, most recently for the past 10 years as Head of Income Generation for a Welsh charity supporting survivors of domestic abuse. Joining Ann at Y Bont as the lead for fundraising and marketing is local girl Paisley Thompson-Bailey. Paisley is a Marketing graduate with experience in retail and fundraising.

Strong Communities Grant Fund launched by Vale of Glamorgan Council.

Last August the Vale of Glamorgan Council launched a new £670,000 scheme to support community group led projects and initiatives. The three year Strong Communities Fund aims to help community initiatives become more sustainable and reduce the need for subsidies to cover running costs and activities. There are a number of application rounds each year, the next round closes on the 3rd August 2018.

This report found that local charities and community groups in the UK are stretched to breaking point. Over recent years, cuts and austerity measures have increased the burden on local charities and community groups. Many groups are now facing a trade-off between the quality and the durability of their services.
