Should we sleep and wake early to boost our health?

When a recent study looked at health differences between late and early risers, it appeared to make grim reading for night owls. Increased risk of early death, psychological disorders and respiratory illness were the stark findings from the paper, which backed up other research suggesting late-nighters are more likely to suffer ill health.

Sad news with Don Read passing away

GVS is sad to report that Don Read sadly passed away last week. Don was a huge supporter of GVS (formerly VCVS) and his wife Margaret volunteered for us as a Chair/Trustee for over 20 years. Wales for Africa Grant Scheme open

WCVA is pleased to announce the first round of the Welsh Government Wales for Africa Grant Scheme is now open for applications. Grant funding will enable organisations throughout Wales to access funding for small-scale Wales-Africa projects. The closing date for applications is 29th June 2018.

Strong Communities Grant Fund launched by Vale of Glamorgan Council.

Last August the Vale of Glamorgan Council launched a new £670,000 scheme to support community group led projects and initiatives. The three year Strong Communities Fund aims to help community initiatives become more sustainable and reduce the need for subsidies to cover running costs and activities. There are a number of application rounds each year, the next round closes on the 3rd August 2018.

FAQs about breast screening following incident in England

We understand that women in Wales may have concerns about the announcement made earlier this week regarding an issue with the way in which some women in England have been invited for breast screening. As a precaution, Public Health Wales is reviewing the breast screening programme in Wales to ensure all eligible women are invited for screening.
