Trustee Volunteer - Supporting Children’s Charity

Gibbonsdown Children’s Centre is a charity Childcare setting in Barry that is seeking dedicated individuals to join our Board of Trustees.  

As a trustee, you will play a crucial role in providing oversight and strategic guidance to our childcare centre during meetings held 6 times a year. This is a unique opportunity to contribute your skills, expertise, and passion to ensure the well-being, development, and safety of children in our community.       

Your role as a trustee directly contributes to the well-being, development, and safety of children in your community.  You will have the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of young children and their families.

  • Strategic Decision-Making: You will participate in strategic decision-making processes, providing guidance and direction to the childcare centre. Your insights and expertise will help shape policies, programs, and initiatives aimed at enhancing the quality of childcare services

  • Collaborative Environment: You will work closely with fellow trustees, childcare centre staff, and organizational leadership in a collaborative and supportive environment.  Together, you'll share ideas, tackle challenges, and work towards common goals to ensure the childcare centre’s success

  • ·Governance and Oversight: You will be responsible for providing governance and oversight to the childcare centre, (done during discussion in meetings) ensuring compliance with regulations, ethical standards, and best practices.  You will monitor the centre’s financial performance, ensuring sustainability

  • Personal and Professional Growth: Serving as a trustee offers opportunities for personal and professional growth.  You will gain valuable leadership experience, enhance your strategic thinking skills, and broaden your network by connecting with other professionals and community members

  • Commitment and Dedication: Serving as a trustee requires a commitment to the mission and values of the childcare centre.  You will dedicate time and effort to attend board meetings, committee meetings, and other relevant gatherings

 Overall, serving as a trustee for a childcare centre is a rewarding experience that allows you to make a positive impact on the lives of children and families while contributing to the betterment of your community.

Skills Required 

  • Commitment to the well-being and development of children and families

  • Leadership and strategic thinking skills

  • Ability to work effectively in a collaborative, team-oriented environment

  • Communication, interpersonal, and relationship-building skills

  • Experience in one or more of the relevant areas such as education, childcare, non-profit management, governance, finance, law, or marketing is preferred but not needed.  If you have a passion to help and make the Centre better, then this is all you need

  • A passion for community and supporting the Centre

Time commitment:  5 meetings a year roughly 1-2 hours long, an AGM and emails that need to be replied to.
Expenses reimbursed:  Unfortunately, travel expenses are not reimbursed.

Full training is provided.
